| Dear Oenophile Some of you may remember Fess Parker. He played Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett in the 50’s and 60’s. He was hugely popular. I grew up with him. Watched him every evening after dinner, black and white TV, no remote. Oh, how brutal, but I guess I turned out ok. Fess left Hollywood in the 70’s and invested in real estate, and that, is a very fortunate thing for us. In the 80’s he bought a 714 acre ranch in Santa Ynez. Did he have a crystal ball or what? It’s now known as the Foxen Canyon wine trail. Here’s a few of the neighbors; Cambria, Foxen (of course), Firestone, Kenneth Volk, and Zaca Mesa. Everyone’s growing Pinot Noir and Rhone varietals. The thing with valleys south of the bay is that they cool off at night with the Pacific influence. Thin skinned early ripening Pinot’s thrive on that. Keeps the acids up and makes em spicy. I love this wine because it’s not trying to be what it’s not. Is that a double negative? The 2017 has honest Pinot Noir flavor and aroma. You can see right through it. Clear cherry red colors are bright and flashy. Don’t let the light color fool you! There is solid aroma pressure yielding strawberry’s, spice and the ever elusive Pinot Noir velvet. That ethereal aroma true burgundy lovers/believers yearn for. Once you get it, you’re like, hooked for life! The mouth is tender with cherry/strawberry fruits that are quite lengthy. Alcohols are a mere 13.8%. That’s most likely an honest reading. A three appellation blend from 67% Monterey, 17% San Luis Obispo and 16% Santa Barbara with 6 months in French Oak. 90 points and a gold medal with the San Francisco International Wine Competition 2018. 92 Points with the TastingPanel Magazine. This particular label was just spun off to Guarachi Wine Partners. Not a bad thing. It allows Fess Parker Winery to concentrate on single vineyard Pinot an Rhone. Eli Parker will still make the wine for the next four years. The Offer 2017 Parker Station Pinot Noir List Price $16.79 Try one for $13.99 Buy six for $12.99!
