Dear Oenophile
A winemaker has many decisions some are easy and some are not. They must follow the fruit from dirt to bottle. It would be simple to take the top of the crop and make wine. Economics, however, must come into play. So how do you get rid of the rest of it? I once had a winemaker lament that he could not afford to make the wine he wanted; hence the creation of quality levels or tiers.
At Clos du Bois Maureen Martin is charged with this task. She and her team make the cuts that culminate in the artistic. Take for example the 2008 Marlstone. At 76% Cabernet, 15% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 4% Petite Verdot this our kinda juice!
On Saturday August 11th at 6pm in the private conference room of Suite 100 we will taste and examine Clos du Bois’s quality levels. Sit, sip, snack and enjoy as Maureen guides us through her wines. Reservations can be made with Mike McVittie 907 677 9050 (Huffman) ormike@anchoragewinehouse.com . Tariff is a meager $35.00 per reservation, 24 seats available.
